Punjab education foundation crosses four million admissions

The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has secured four million admissions till now, with more than two million enrollments in the past two years.

The PEF has crossed the milestone of four million student admissions, according to Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat.

Speaking on Wednesday, the minister said more than two million new students had been enrolled under foundation-supported programmes during the past two years.

Mr Hayat described the initiative as the world’s largest public-private partnership model in the education sector, saying the programme had expanded rapidly across Punjab.

He said the foundation’s budget had increased to Rs85bn, adding that funding for the organisation had risen by 250% over the past two years.

According to the minister, the expansion of education programmes had also created economic opportunities throughout the province.

He said that nearly 100,000 employment opportunities had been generated, while more than 30,000 people had become school owners through various initiatives linked to the programme.

Mr Hayat also announced that 300 modern educational institutions had been established under the Nawaz Sharif School of Eminence initiative at a reported cost of Rs12bn.

He said the provincial government aimed to provide access to quality education in every union council and added that the outsourcing of schools was being carried out on merit.

The minister said the government planned to increase the number of students benefiting from PEF programmes to five million within the next two years.

He also expressed satisfaction over the conduct of examinations under the Punjab Examination Commission, stating that no paper leak incidents had been reported during recent exams.

Mr Hayat added that consultations were underway regarding the establishment of summer camps during the upcoming school holidays to support students’ academic and extracurricular development.

The Punjab Education Foundation was established to expand access to education through partnerships with private schools, particularly for students from low-income families and underserved areas.
