The Punjab government has made a significant decision to eradicate extremism by establishing the Punjab Center of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism as an autonomous entity.
The amendment bill received approval from the Standing Committee on Legislation and Privatisation. This approval grants the institution permanent succession, a joint seal, and legal authority.
As a result, the institution will have the capability to acquire, transfer, and file cases under its own name. The Act of 2025 was revised following the Law Department’s objections.
A summary was presented by the Home Department to confer formal autonomous status upon the institution.
The Finance Department provided preliminary approval, contingent upon the institution managing its expenses from the existing budget.
Officials indicate that this initiative is designed to improve the effectiveness of the counter-extremism framework.
The expected administrative autonomy of the institution is expected to foster improved coordination among agencies and facilitate better policy implementation.
