SSGC announces temporary gas suspension in THESE Karachi areas

Government announces major update on gas prices in Pakistan

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a temporary gas shutdown in different areas of Karachi, Sindh, according to reports on Friday.

According to the company spokesperson, gas supply will remain suspended due to work on gas pipelines near the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) Flyover.

The statement said that the work will be carried out on Saturday and Sunday night on the BRT route near the flyover.

During this time, 16-inch and 20-inch high-pressure gas pipelines will be shifted at the request of Trans Karachi.

SSGC said that the work is expected to be completed during a scheduled shutdown from 10 PM to 5 AM. However, the work may continue until 8 AM due to technical reasons.

During this period, gas supply may remain suspended in several areas. These include Liaquat National Hospital, Aga Khan Hospital, Karachi Central Prison, and nearby areas. Low gas pressure may also be experienced in the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) Industrial Area.

Gas supply suspended in Karachi

Prior to this, on May 10, the gas supply had been suspended in several parts of Karachi in the evening. The suspension occurred after the construction work for the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project damaged a high-pressure gas pipeline near Jail Chowrangi.

According to a SSGC spokesperson, a 12-inch high-pressure gas pipeline was struck during excavation activities linked to the Red Line project.

The incident led to an immediate suspension of gas supply in Saddar, Garden, Jamshed Road, PIB Colony, Lyari, Lines Area and surrounding neighbourhoods.

SSGC teams quickly arrived at the site and secured the affected section of the pipeline by placing safety barriers around the damaged area to avoid any further danger.
