Karachi public transport set for boost with 500 new electric buses

The Sindh government has approved 500 new electric buses for Karachi as part of efforts to improve the city’s public transport system.

Talking with media persons, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the buses will operate on three routes under a public-private partnership model.

The initiative aims to provide modern, environmentally friendly transport facilities to residents and expand the network of electric buses across the province.

He further stated that the bus service will begin in areas including Orangi and Banaras, adding that the government is expanding the electric bus network across Sindh.

On the other hand, MQM Pakistan member Naseer Ahmed said that people in Manghopir are facing severe problems due to the lack of public transport, and that the new bus project will help reduce these difficulties.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the bus service will soon be launched in Orangi, Banaras, and other areas, and that three new routes will also become operational. He added that new routes are being introduced in different parts of Sindh to expand the bus network, including Tando Allah Yar, Khairpur, Rohri, and Gulshan-e-Maymar in Karachi.

Furthermore, MQM member Moaz Mehboob raised concerns about the sale of gutka in his constituency and the level of police surveillance on the issue. In response, Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said that steps are being taken to address and prevent this problem.
