Fortnite returns to Apple App Store

Fortnite returns to Apple App Store

The popular battle royale game ‘Fortnite’ is once again accessible for download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store across several regions globally.

It is important to note that this return comes after an almost six-year break that began in 2020, following a major dispute regarding app store regulations and payment systems.

Apple has consistently stated that its App Store regulations safeguard user security, privacy, and the overall quality of the experience on iOS devices.

The company invests significantly in platform security, careful app review processes, and a strong ecosystem that benefits both developers and consumers.

When Epic independently introduced direct payments in Fortnite to find a way around Apple’s standard commission, which supports the infrastructure, tools, and services provided by Apple, it breached the developer agreement, resulting in the game’s removal.

Why was Fortnite removed from Apple App Store?

In 2020, Fortnite was taken down from the App Store and Google Play after Epic executed in-app payments that violated platform regulations.

After legal proceedings in the United States, Fortnite reappeared on the U.S. iOS App Store in 2025. Apple followed relevant rulings while continuing to uphold its overall strategy for maintaining a secure and dependable platform.

By March 2026, Fortnite was once again made available on Google Play worldwide following policy modifications by Google.

Now in May 2026, the game has broadened its availability on Apple’s App Store in additional regions, demonstrating ongoing adherence to legal obligations and policy developments.
