The security forces on May 20 eliminated a key commander of Fitna al Khawarij named ‘Baseer’.

The security forces have achieved a major victory by sending the leading commander of the terrorist organisation to hell.

Pakistani security forces said that they have killed a suspected militant commander linked to several attacks in Balochistan in an intelligence-based operation (IBO).

In a statement released on Wednesday, the officials of the security forces identified the suspect as Baseer, whom they accused of belonging to the banned militant group commonly referred to by the authorities as “Fitna al Khawarij”.

Officials alleged that Baseer was involved in planning an attack on the Frontier Corps (North) headquarters in Quetta on September 30 last year.

According to the statement, security forces had previously killed 15 suspected militants allegedly connected to the attack in separate operations, while Baseer escaped every time.

The forces said that a major operation was conducted in the Shaban area on the night of May 14 and May 15, during which 33 suspected militants were sent to hell.

Authorities later claimed that Baseer had been commanding the group’s camp in the area.

Officials said intelligence efforts were intensified afterwards and that Baseer was sent to hell during an operation on May 20.

One of his alleged associates was also arrested alive, according to the statement.

Security officials further alleged that Baseer was involved in multiple attacks, including a suicide attack on a wing headquarters in Chaman, an attack on a Frontier Corps post in Loralai and quadcopter attacks targeting security forces.

Balochistan has witnessed a rise in militant violence in recent years, with security forces frequently conducting IBOs against armed terrorist groups active in the province.
