A large province wide cleanliness operation has been launched across Punjab on the occasion of Eid ul Azha 2026, on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The chief minister is also directly monitoring the campaign.
Officials said that this is the biggest organised cleanliness drive so far. A real time monitoring system has also been set up.
It will collect the data from eight different institutions and channels. Deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners have been assigned in the field to supervise the work.
Suthra Punjab teams are working in major cities including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, and Sahiwal.
They are cleaning streets and neighbourhoods on a large scale. Early morning cleaning was also carried out at mosques, Eidgahs, graveyards, markets, roads, and residential areas.
In addition to this, routes leading to prayer places were washed and marked with lime.
Special arrangements have been made in the district and tehsil hospitals. Administrative officers are visiting different areas to review the work. Teams have also been made for the safe disposal of animal waste at places that have been designated.
The government has also warned that throwing sacrificial waste in streets or public places may lead to fines of up to Rs50,000.
After cleaning, the areas will be washed with disinfectant like phenyl and sprayed with rose water for hygiene and smell control.
Under the campaign, Suthra Punjab camps have been set up in all 4,000 union councils of the province.
More than 176,000 sanitation workers are taking part in the operation. An additional 8,000 workers and 12,000 loader rickshaws have also been deployed.
Officials said more than 12.5 million eco friendly bags have been given to households for safe disposal of sacrificial waste.
Citizens can report sanitation complaints through the 1139 helpline. Officials have also been directed to respond quickly under the instructions of the chief minister.
