After days of an intense heatwave across Pakistan, different parts of the country can expect thunderstorm/rain in the coming days.

The cities in Punjab are likely to get some relief today (Friday).

According to BBC Weather, rain is expected in Islamabad and Lahore for today and tomorrow (Saturday).

This will drop the temperature significantly; a maximum of 38°C will be recorded in Lahore and 36 °C in Islamabad today.

On Saturday, the temperatures will drop further.

The wind may also shift towards Karachi as there is a slight chance of rain in the City of Lights on Sunday.

Earlier, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) predicted scattered rainfall in Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. It is also said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to experience isolated rainfall.

During the Eid holidays, an extreme temperature of 45°C was recorded in Lahore, with the ‘feels-like’ temperature reaching 50°C in parts of southern Punjab.

Daytime temperatures in several regions rose between 47°C and 50°C. These include Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo Daro, Dadu and Nawabshah.

Amid the heatwave alert, the authorities warned that glaciers in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir might melt faster than usual.

Officials also warned that rapidly melting glaciers could cause glacial lake outburst floods in vulnerable areas such as Darkot, Lasht, Reshun, Booni, Shisper, Gulkin and Kumrat.
