Web desk: The investigation into the death of Islamabad Police SP Adeel Akbar has ended. The inquiry committee has ruled out suicide, according to official sources.
The four-member committee has completed its report. It will be given to Islamabad IGP Ali Nasir Rizvi today. The findings will then be shared with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for further action.
SP Adeel Akbar Case: No Evidence of Suicide
The committee found no proof that SP Adeel Akbar took his own life. “The committee found no evidence of suicide,” a source said.
The report confirmed that SP Adeel died from a gunshot wound to the face. The post-mortem report also supported this finding.
Statements Recorded
The committee recorded the statements of SP Adeel’s driver, wireless operator, and other staff members. They also questioned his psychologist.
Sources said SP Adeel had visited his doctor twice before his death. His mental health was checked during the probe. The committee found no signs that he wanted to end his life.
SP Adeel Akbar was serving as SP Industrial Area, Islamabad. He was found dead from a gunshot wound while on duty on October 23.
The case first appeared to be a suicide, leading the Islamabad Police to launch an inquiry.
The investigation included medical and forensic reviews. It has now ruled out suicide and shifted focus to other possible causes or foul play.
The committee’s report will be submitted to IGP Ali Nasir Rizvi. He will forward it to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for review.
Further action will be decided after the report is examined by the Interior Ministry. Officials said the government wants a clear and fair conclusion to the case.
Earlier, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Islamabad Inspector General of Police held a joint media briefing about the death of SP Adeel Akbar.
They said no final statement would be made until the inquiry was complete and all facts were verified.
Talal Chaudhry told reporters, “We will give a conclusive statement only after confirming all facts.”
The funeral prayers for SP Adeel Akbar were held at Police Lines. Minister Talal Chaudhry, senior police officials, law enforcement personnel, and many civilians attended the funeral.
