The spokesperson for the Government of Sindh, Sukhdev Hemnani, has said that the provincial government is actively exploring various relief measures for workers, low-income families, and other disadvantaged groups in the upcoming provincial budget, which includes a significant increase in the minimum wage.
He mentioned that following the directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to offer maximum relief to the public, efforts are being made to create enough fiscal space for substantial public assistance while upholding fiscal discipline.
He also noted that multiple proposals are being evaluated, and a conclusive decision regarding the minimum wage and other relief initiatives will be made after a thorough assessment of the province’s financial status and discussions with relevant stakeholders.
Sukhdev Hemnani further emphasised that Sindh has consistently led the way in safeguarding workers’ rights and welfare.
He pointed out that since 2008, the minimum wage has risen from Rs6,000 to Rs40,000.
Hemnani added that the Sindh Government has persistently worked to improve protections for vulnerable workers through progressive legislation.
In this context, the Sindh Assembly recently enacted the Domestic Workers Welfare Bill 2025, which places domestic workers under a formal legal protection framework.
This law ensures safeguards regarding working conditions, regulated working hours, and rest periods, while also banning child labor in domestic work and promoting greater dignity and security for household workers throughout the province.
