Traffic likely to be disrupted over PTI protest today

Traffic movement in Islamabad and Rawalpindi is expected to face disruptions today, due to a protest announced by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the twin cities.

Authorities have deployed a large number of police personnel at key locations, including the 26 Number area, to maintain law and order and manage any potential unrest. While roads remain open at present, officials have warned that major routes, including the M-1 Motorway, 26 Number and other entry points into Islamabad, could experience closures or traffic congestion if the protest intensifies.

Motorists have been advised to stay informed about traffic conditions, use alternative routes where possible and allocate extra travel time to avoid delays.

Meanwhile, a high-level meeting chaired by SSP Operations Islamabad, Qazi Ali Raza, reviewed security and law enforcement arrangements in the federal capital. The meeting focused on strengthening public safety measures and ensuring effective policing during the protest.

Officials also stressed the importance of maintaining a coordinated response against criminal activity while continuing to provide efficient services to residents throughout the day.

The meeting also focused on preparations for the upcoming month of Muharram, with authorities directing police to implement comprehensive security measures. Officers were instructed to enhance coordination with Imambargah administrations, religious scholars, community leaders and local traders to ensure a peaceful and well-organised observance of the holy month.

Officials emphasised the importance of close community engagement and effective communication to maintain law and order, address security concerns promptly and prevent any disruptions during both the protest and Muharram-related activities.
