Noor Mukadam’s father urges President to reject Zahir Jaffer’s mercy plea

Noor Mukadam’s father, Shaukat Mukadam, has said he will appeal to the President of Pakistan to reject Zahir Jaffer’s mercy plea, stating that the head of state also has two daughters.

Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court, he said that the sentence should be implemented. He thanked the media for strongly supporting the family from the trial court level to the Supreme Court.

Shaukat Mukadam further said that he will give the same message to all daughters and girls to raise their voices against oppression.

According to the police, instead of informing law enforcement, the parents of the accused contacted Therapy Works. When the Therapy Works team reached the scene, the accused Zahir Jaffer allegedly stabbed and injured Amjad, an employee of Therapy Works. By the time the police arrived, Noor Mukadam had already been killed, and her decapitated body was found at the scene.

Regarding how Noor Mukadam was killed, the CCTV footage showed heartbreaking scenes. Police arrested the accused wearing a blood-stained shirt and also recovered the murder weapon from the crime scene.

It is worth mentioning that the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday rejected a review petition filed by Zahir Jaffer and upheld its earlier decision confirming his death sentence in the Noor Mukadam murder case.

Noor Mukadam, 27, was killed at Jaffer’s Islamabad residence in July 2021 after being subjected to torture, with investigations revealing she was also beheaded. In February 2022, a trial court sentenced Zahir Jaffer to death, a ruling that was later upheld by the Islamabad High Court and subsequently by the Supreme Court.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Justices Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, Salahuddin Panhwar, and Ishtiaq Ibrahim, heard the review petition on Thursday.

During the hearing, Zahir Jaffer’s counsel, Khawaja Haris, presented arguments, while Shah Khawar represented the respondents. After hearing both sides, the bench announced its decision, dismissing the plea and maintaining the earlier verdict.
