A 36-year-old US woman travelled to Pakistan’s Sialkot after an online friendship with a local boy turned into a romantic relationship, which later led to their marriage.
According to reports, Morris Ashley became friends with 21-year-old Kaif-ul-Wora through social media. Their friendship gradually developed into a relationship and she later visited Pakistan to meet him and his family.
Before the wedding ceremony, the American woman converted to Islam and adopted the Islamic name Khadija. After her conversion, she stated that she embraced Islam of her own free will and without any pressure.
The couple later solemnised their marriage in Sialkot, with the haq mehr set at US$2,000.
Earlier, the wedding of 60-year-old Hakeem Babar to a young woman in the city of Rawalpindi created a viral trend after videos of the ceremony were shared across social media platforms.
Clips from the event uploaded to the social media platform portray the couple exchanging smiles, posing for photographs and taking part in traditional wedding rituals.
Family members were seen celebrating alongside them. The videos quickly went viral, prompting thousands of comments and reactions.
Couple say marriage was by mutual choice
In interviews shared online, Hakim Babar said the couple had first developed feelings for each other and later formalised the relationship through marriage. He added that his wife had previously been divorced.
He said both families were aware of the match and supported their decision. “Age is just a number,” he said in one clip, adding that people should feel young at heart.
The bride has not spoken extensively in public, but in short clips circulating online, the couple asked people to offer prayers and good wishes rather than criticism.
