Pakistan and the United States have seen a major improvement in their bilateral relations, with Pakistan emerging as an important and unexpected partner of the Trump administration, according to a report by US media outlet Vox.
The report said Pakistan played a key diplomatic role during the 2026 US-Iran conflict by helping facilitate communication, ceasefire efforts, and negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Vox reported that Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts. It said Islamabad hosted high-level talks between the United States and Iran for the first time since 1979. According to the report, both Washington and Tehran consider Pakistan a trusted mediator.
The report added that President Donald Trump publicly praised Pakistan’s diplomatic role. It noted that the Trump administration has taken a different approach toward Pakistan compared to his first term, marking a significant shift in US policy.
It further highlighted growing cooperation between the two countries in counterterrorism efforts and several strategic agreements. It said Pakistan and the United States have also signed major deals in the cryptocurrency and rare earth minerals sectors.
Vox said changing US strategic priorities have increased Pakistan’s importance in regional and global affairs. It added that Pakistan has maintained strong relations with the United States, China, Saudi Arabia, and Iran, strengthening its role in Middle Eastern diplomacy.
The report said Pakistan has improved its global standing by helping resolve international disputes, making it an increasingly important diplomatic partner at both regional and global levels.
However, it warned that Pakistan still faces challenges, including overdependence on US support and ongoing regional instability, despite its rising diplomatic influence.
