The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) launched a crackdown on electricity theft in Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan).
Authorities removed numerous illegal power connections during an operation in Gilani Town, as reported by officials on Friday.
This operation took place in Street No. 7 of Gilani Town, following the directives of Superintending Engineer PESCO Dera Circle, Engineer Hizbullah Khan Mehsud.
The initiative was overseen by XEN City Division Engineer Imran Gundapur and was led by SDO City-II Muhammad Ali.
PESCO officials stated that several unauthorised direct connections (kundas) of electricity were identified and removed immediately during the operation.
Feeder In-charge Asif Bhutta was responsible for monitoring the enforcement activities.
On this occasion, SDO Muhammad Ali mentioned that the individuals engaged in electricity theft had been identified, and reports had been submitted to the appropriate police station in DI Khan for legal proceedings.
He added that PESCO would persist in conducting such operations to combat electricity theft, minimise line losses, and boost the power distribution system in the area.
Federal govt not ending electricity subsidies
Earlier, the Federal Energy Minister of Pakistan, Awais Leghari, clarified that the government is not ending electricity subsidies for protected consumers.
He said that the reports claiming that the subsidy is being taken away are not correct. According to him, eligible consumers will continue to receive relief. He added that the new system is to make sure that subsidies reach those who deserve them.
