Bikes price to rise up to Rs16,000 from July

Motorcycle prices likely to increase by nearly Rs20,000

The price of the bikes is about to increase this July up to Rs16,000.

The price of some of Pakistan’s most popular motorcycles could rise from July if the government goes ahead with a proposed increase in the Climate Support Levy under the 2026-27 federal budget.

The levy, which is applied to the invoice price of combustion-engine vehicles, currently stands at 1% for motorcycles.

Under the proposal, the rate would increase to 3%, adding to the overall cost of buying a new petrol-powered bike.

The measure is expected to affect a wide range of models, including the Honda CD70, Honda CG125, Honda Pridor, Suzuki GS150, and other motorcycles commonly used for daily transport.

Motorcycles remain the most widely used form of personal transport in Pakistan and are often the preferred choice for workers, students and lower-income households.

They are also widely used by food delivery riders and bike taxi drivers.

Industry estimates suggest that even entry-level models could see noticeable price increases if the revised levy is approved.

For buyers of lower-cost motorcycles, the additional expense may be significant at a time when transport and living costs remain under pressure.

The proposed change has also drawn attention because motorists already pay a range of taxes linked to vehicle ownership and fuel consumption. These include sales tax, withholding tax, registration charges and fuel-related levies.

Critics argue that increasing the Climate Support Levy would add further costs for consumers who rely on motorcycles as an affordable means of transport.

Supporters of the measure, however, say environmental taxes can help governments raise revenue for climate-related initiatives.

Manufacturers such as Honda, Suzuki and other motorcycle producers would be expected to revise their official price lists if the higher levy comes into effect.

The proposal has not yet been approved. A final decision is expected when the federal government presents Budget 2026-27 in the National Assembly on June 10.

Until then, buyers planning to purchase a new motorcycle are waiting to see whether the proposed tax increase will become law and how much it could add to the cost of their preferred model.
