Guide to activating 5G on your mobile in Pakistan

5G launch delayed in Pakistan as Apple yet to release required software update

5G services are slowly expanding in selected cities and coverage zones with Jazz and Zong at the forefront of 5G deployment in the country.

Ufone has also been given permission to launch 5G services, but has not yet activated them.

5G’s rollout, however, will not happen automatically and is dependent on several conditions.

First of all, users need to have a smartphone that has 5G capability and supports local network bands.

Unlike 4G, a 5G device cannot be upgraded from 4G without hardware upgrades, because 5G is based on different technologies.

If using an imported phone, please ensure that the phone is inspected carefully, as the different regions may have different frequencies.

The device also needs to be PTA-approved and have a mobile data connection.

Users should first check if they have 5G coverage in their area before making their phone settings adjustments.

Jazz and Zong offer coverage maps, but this estimate does not reflect the actual signal strength in a particular location, building, weather or network congestion.

5G might not always be stable, even indoors.

Compatibility of devices is also crucial.

Please check which models will be supported by your operator, as listed in their supported device list.

This will make sure the phone is able to function on local 5G networks.

Enabling 5G varies based on the device. On iPhones, it can be turned on in Cellular Data Options, and “5G Auto” is recommended for getting a balance of performance and battery life.

In Samsung and other Android phones, it is located in the Mobile Network settings (usually called “5G/LTE/3G/2G Auto”).

Software updates are also crucial because failing to install updates or certain carrier settings can cause 5G to not display.

In dual SIM phones, users need to be sure that mobile data is activated on the proper SIM card as well.

Last but not least, 5G could revert to 4G in weak-signal spots or inside buildings.
