Probe begins into sedition and anti-state activities of Shaukat Nawaz Mir, Khawaja Mehran Arshad

The Home Department of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has initiated formal legal proceedings against Shaukat Nawaz Mir and Khawaja Mehran Arshad over allegations of sedition and anti-state activities.

According to official directives, an inquiry has been ordered into speeches, writings, publications, and electronic communications attributed to Shaukat Nawaz Mir that may fall under Section 124-A of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Penal Code.

The Home Department said that after reviewing available records and material, the allegations require further investigation in accordance with the law.

In both cases, under Section 196 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, concerned District Police Officers have been directed to complete investigations and submit challans before the relevant courts.

Official notifications issued by the Home Department state that available evidence and records in both cases warrant further probe.

Sources said that a purported leaked audio call dated June 6 allegedly shows Shaukat Nawaz Mir and Khawaja Mehran Arshad discussing disruptive activities, a blockade, and confrontation plans against state institutions in Rawalakot, which was later aired by several national media outlets.

According to sources, similarities between the leaked audio conversation and subsequent violent incidents in Rawalakot have further strengthened the investigation.

Investigating agencies are reviewing alleged planning, incitement, coordination, and the possible link between the conversation and later events.

The government has directed the SSP Muzaffarabad to investigate Shaukat Nawaz Mir, while the SSP Mirpur has been tasked to complete proceedings against Khawaja Mehran Arshad and submit challans in the relevant courts.

All aspects related to attacks on state institutions, damage to public property, disruption of law and order, and incitement to violence are being included in the investigation.

Government sources said that all individuals involved in planning, facilitating, or encouraging violent activities will be held accountable under the law.
