Police arrested three suspects in connection with the rape and murder of an 18-year-old college student from Jhang, a day after she died while receiving treatment at a hospital.
Police tracked down the suspects in Jhang and Lahore. CCTV footage showed the accused bringing the girl to a private hospital and leaving shortly afterwards.
According to police and family members, the first-year college student, who lived in Sultan Colony, left her home on June 4 to collect her roll number slip. When she did not return, her family began searching for her.
The next evening, her parents received a phone call informing them that she had been admitted to a private hospital. By the time they arrived, doctors had shifted her to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.
She remained under treatment throughout the night but died on Tuesday.
The victim’s father accused unidentified men of abducting his daughter, sexually assaulting her, and later killing her.
He registered a kidnapping case at Satellite Police Station and appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to ensure justice.
Police said they are investigating the case and will determine the exact cause of death after receiving the postmortem report.
The chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority, Hina Parvez Butt, also confirmed the arrest of three suspects in her tweet on X. She wrote, ” Three beasts who committed atrocities against a 17-year-old girl in Jhang and pushed her to the brink of death have been arrested. The girl and her parents will soon receive justice.”
