Bangladesh fast bowler Naheed Rana found guilty of ICC code breach

Bangladesh fast bowler Naheed Rana has been found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first One-Day International (ODI) against Australia, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Wednesday.

According to an ICC statement, Rana was handed an official reprimand and received one demerit point after admitting to the offence. The incident occurred during the match when the young pacer celebrated aggressively and used inappropriate language following the dismissal of an Australian batter.

Rana accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee, eliminating the need for a formal hearing. The disciplinary action came despite an impressive performance from the fast bowler, who played a key role in Bangladesh’s historic victory over Australia in the series opener.

As a result, the fast bowler has been officially reprimanded and handed one demerit point. Rana admitted the offence and accepted the sanction.

The incident occurred after he dismissed Josh Inglis, when he celebrated aggressively and used inappropriate language. Despite the controversy, Bangladesh secured a historic victory over Australia, winning an ODI against them for the first time in 21 years and taking a 1–0 lead in the three-match series.

In the match played in Dhaka, Bangladesh defeated Australia by 86 runs in the first ODI. The result was determined under the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) method after rain interrupted play. Chasing a target of 285, Australia could only manage 191 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

Rana was the standout performer for Bangladesh, taking four wickets, while Mustafizur Rahman claimed two wickets to help seal the victory.
