The ongoing heatwave in Karachi has been compounded by prolonged power outages in several parts of the city, adding to the difficulties faced by residents.
Multiple areas, including Scheme 33, Surjani Town, New Karachi, Orangi Town and Malir have been without electricity for several hours, severely disrupting daily life.
Residents of various housing societies in Scheme 33, including Madras Society, State Bank Society, and Gwalior Society, have reported significant hardship due to the suspension of electricity supply.
Power outages have also persisted in Karachi University Society, PCSIR Society, Quetta Town Society, New Incholi Society and several other neighbourhoods across the city.
Residents said the combination of extreme heat and high humidity has made the situation particularly difficult for children, women, senior citizens, and patients, whose suffering has increased considerably due to the lack of electricity.
Citizens further complained that despite repeatedly reporting the issue, the relevant authorities have failed to take effective action or provide a satisfactory response regarding the restoration of power.
Earlier, K-Electric assured an uninterrupted power supply during the heatwave as the Provincial Disaster Management Authority issued an alert for Karachi and advised authorities to take necessary measures to reduce the impact of extreme temperatures.
KE spokesperson Imran Rana said the utility is fully prepared to meet rising electricity demand and remains committed to maintaining a stable power supply.
He added that field teams are on high alert to quickly address any faults while urging citizens to stay informed and follow heatwave safety guidelines. He also noted that KE is coordinating closely with civic agencies to ensure an effective response during the crisis.
KE has also advised residents to take precautionary measures, including avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities between 11 am and 4 pm, the peak heat hours. Citizens are encouraged to stay hydrated, wear light and breathable clothing and protect themselves from direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day.
