Mexico City came alive with a colourful ceremony as the global football festival of the FIFA World Cup commenced.

According to media reports, a two-member Pakistani delegation, led by Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President Syed Mohsen Gilani, represented Pakistan at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony and official dinner.

According to the President of Mexico, football leadership from around the world attended the opening ceremony. He said they would host the biggest global event in history in a memorable and exemplary manner.

He further stated that all available resources and efforts would be utilised to make the FIFA World Cup a historic success.

Meanwhile, FIFA President Gianni Infantino thanked the President of Mexico for the magnificent opening ceremony and extraordinary commitment. The FIFA chief also expressed gratitude to the World Cup co-hosts, the United States and Canada, for their excellent arrangements.

On the occasion of the FIFA World Cup, the Pakistani delegation held important meetings with officials from football associations of various countries. PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani discussed matters of mutual interest with leaders of the global football community.

This FIFA World Cup marks a historic milestone, as Iraqi midfielder Zidane Iqbal becomes the first player of Pakistani origin to participate in football’s biggest tournament.

His inclusion in Iraq’s World Cup squad has been widely celebrated both internationally and within the Pakistani community, which views his achievement as a source of immense pride.

The 23-year-old midfielder was born in Manchester, United Kingdom, and comes from a diverse cultural background. His mother is Iraqi, while his father is Pakistani, giving him a unique heritage that connects him to both nations.
