Kane Williamson bids farewell to international cricket after glorious career

Kane Williamson announces retirement from international cricket

New Zealand batting great Kane Williamson has announced his retirement from international cricket, drawing the curtain on a remarkable career at the highest level.

Williamson featured in 110 Test matches, 175 One Day Internationals, and 93 T20 Internationals for New Zealand, establishing himself as one of the most consistent performers in modern cricket.

He was a key member of the New Zealand team that reached the 2015 and 2019 World Cup finals and earned a prominent place in world cricket due to his consistency and outstanding batting performances.

In a statement from New Zealand Cricket, Williamson shared the reason behind his decision, bringing the curtains down on a stellar career.

“I’ve thought about it for a while, but over the last few days it’s become clear now is the right time,” he said. “I’ve always felt a strong drive and hunger for international cricket, and I take pride in knowing I’ve given it my all in every match I’ve played for New Zealand.

“Continuing with anything less wouldn’t be right and I feel fortunate to step away on my own terms.

“I leave feeling optimistic about where this group is heading. There’s a huge amount of talent, and a real desire to do something special with this New Zealand team. “It’s a team I love, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have been part of it for so long. It will continue to be dear to my heart.”

Kane Williamson scored a total of 19,346 runs across all three formats and is considered one of the greatest batsmen in New Zealand cricket history.
