The Pakistan women’s cricket team has been fined 5% of its match fee for failing to complete its overs within the allotted time during its Group A match against India in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), Pakistan were penalized for maintaining a slow over-rate. The team was found to be one over short of the required target, even after considering time allowances. The penalty was imposed by Trudy Anderson, a member of the ICC Emirates International Panel of Match Referees.
Under Clause 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, teams are fined 5% of their match fee for each over short of the minimum over-rate requirement. Pakistan women’s team captain Fatima Sana admitted the offence and accepted the sanction, meaning no formal hearing was required.
The match officials included on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Jacqueline Williams, with Elvis Sheridan serving as the third umpire and Sue Redfern as the fourth umpire. The match between Pakistan and India was played at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday.
It is worth mentioning here that India easily defeated Pakistan’s women’s T20 team by 64 runs in an ICC Women’s T20 World Cup match.
Pakistan failed to make a positive start to their Women’s T20 World Cup campaign, as they were comprehensively beaten by India in their opening match at Edgbaston.
The Green Shirts suffered a 64-run defeat after being bowled out for 106 in the 17th over while chasing India’s target of 170. Pakistan struggled throughout the run chase and were unable to make the high-profile encounter a memorable one.
Earlier, India had set Pakistan a target of 171 runs to win in a crucial match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Batting first at Edgbaston, India scored 170 for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted overs.
Smriti Mandhana was the standout performer, scoring 68 runs off 44 balls, while Richa Ghosh contributed an aggressive 34 runs and Harmanpreet Kaur added 36 runs.
