Pakistan held talks with the current Afghan regime from 2021 to 2025, a period of four years, which reflects its consistent stance that all issues with Afghanistan should be resolved through dialogue, security sources maintained.
Over these four years, various Pakistani delegations, including ministers and officials at the National Security Adviser level, visited Afghanistan for negotiations. Afghan delegations also visited Pakistan during this time.
Pakistan’s demand is straightforward: the support, shelter, and facilitation of militants and their leadership must be ended.
Officials say the Afghan regime did not take concrete action beyond statements and promises, while incidents of terrorism from Afghan soil continued.
When the Afghan authorities failed to honour their commitments, Pakistan began responding militarily about a year ago.
Pakistan maintains that it still seeks peace and friendship with Afghanistan, but insists on one key demand: an end to the provision of safe havens, support, and facilitation for terrorist groups.
