Shia leadership urges banned JAAC to immediately postpone protest during Muharram

The District President of the Shia community of Mirpur Division, along with all organisational units, especially Anjuman Hussainia Bhimber, have urged the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) to immediately postpone or end the protest during Muharram.

In an issued press release, it stated that the Holy month of Muharram has begun and Section 144 is in force during this sacred period, under which all public activities are prohibited. Keeping in view the Islamic and religious sentiments associated with Muharram, they have strongly urged the leadership of JAAC to postpone or end its protest during the month of Muharram.

The President of Anjuman Hussainiya Bhimber stated that Muharram is a month of great sanctity and spiritual significance for all Muslims. During this sacred month, mourning gatherings, processions and other religious events are organised, and it is essential to ensure their peaceful and uninterrupted conduct.

The statement noted that, given the current situation and the circumstances arising from the protest activities of the JAAC, there is a risk that both public life and religious activities may be adversely affected, especially in light of the enforcement of Section 144.

Anjuman Hussainiya emphasised that all Muslims should be able to perform their religious obligations during Muharram in an atmosphere of peace, brotherhood and religious harmony.

Anjuman Hussainiya clarified that it has no affiliation with any political party or protest movement. Its sole objective is to safeguard religious freedom, maintain peace and public order, and uphold the sanctity of Muharram. The organisation also appealed to its members, youth and followers to refrain from any actions that could lead to tension or conflict.

The statement further urged the leadership and workers of the Joint Awami Action Committee to reconsider their protest activities in light of public sentiments and religious requirements. It stressed that reducing tensions during Muharram would enable believers to perform their religious rituals with peace of mind and devotion.

Anjuman Hussainiya expressed hope that if the JAAC adopts a constructive approach and relaxes its protest activities during Muharram, the government will likewise take meaningful steps to address public concerns through dialogue and mutual understanding.
