Law enforcement agencies conducted a raid on the residence of Khawaja Mehran, a core committee member of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), in Dadyal, Mirpur, following reports of suspicious activities at the property.
According to sources, authorities recovered a drone, a 12-bore shotgun with ammunition, a pistol, four USB drives, a laptop, and several items belonging to Islamabad Police, including helmets and other equipment, during the search.
Shahid Aslam, an employee of Khawaja Mehran, revealed that before leaving for the ongoing sit-in in Rawalakot, Mehran arranged for two ambulances to transport weapons and other materials. The employee said that several assault rifles, two 12-bore guns, large quantities of ammunition, slingshots, stones, broken glass bottles, and packets containing cash were moved from the residence.
He further revealed that approximately two kilograms of hashish and several shell-firing guns allegedly seized from police during the September 29 long march at Palak Bridge were also transported to Rawalakot.
According to the employee’s statement, the recovered weapons and equipment were regularly stored at the residence when Mehran was present. He also said that several proclaimed offenders and individuals linked to narcotics networks were employed as armed guards for Mehran’s security.
Earlier, armed members of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) opened fire on a police flag march in Rawalakot, damaging a police armoured personnel carrier (APC).
According to sources, law enforcement personnel came under intense gunfire at Eidgah during a flag march conducted on June 14. The leading APC of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police was hit by around 30 bullets fired from different small-calibre weapons.
