The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a 30-day grace period for travellers whose visa was affected due to extraordinary conditions in the region to either make their stay valid or leave the UAE without any penalties.
The grace period will continue from June 10 to July 9, 2026, according to local media reports. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) announced.
The facility is open for those people who were previously exempted from overstaying fines because they could not leave the UAE because of disruptions caused by extraordinary regional developments.
The move aims to support the populations affected by the restrictions in complying with UAE immigration laws and ensuring they have adequate time to update their residency and employment status before returning to the UAE once the situation returns to normal, and to keep them living and working legally in the country, after the regional stability is restored, the ICP said.
The authority pointed out that the previous exemption of overstay fines was based on the UAE’s humanitarianism and its efforts to help travellers and visitors in emergency and unexpected situations.
The conditions that caused the fine exemptions have eased, ICP says, with stability generally resuming in the region.
The beneficiaries of the grace period have no special procedures to follow. Residents intending to change their status or employment visa in the UAE during the designated period will be able to do so; those wishing to exit the UAE will be able to do so per existing rules.
The authority also urged the affected people to get guidance from the official communication channels about any proceedings related to them.
In March, the ICP had already waived fines for overstaying visas in the UAE after the closure of airspace and flight suspensions made it impossible to exit the UAE from February 28, 2026. This exemption was put in place to protect those who are impacted from financial penalties due to factors outside of their control.
This latest move follows the improvement in the situation in the region, and the UAE has begun to gradually resume normal immigration and residency procedures.
