Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has presented the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026–27 in the KP Assembly. According to budget documents, the total outlay is Rs2.17 trillion, with an estimated fiscal deficit of Rs48 billion.
Addressing the budget session, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said that their demand was for the PTI founder to receive treatment at the best hospital, for meetings to be restored, and that no grant should be approved until a meeting with Imran Khan is allowed.
The Chief Minister said that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have trusted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for the third consecutive term. He praised Muzammil Aslam for effectively managing the province’s finances and expressed gratitude to all the parliamentarians who worked day and night on the budget.
Sohail Afridi added that 92 MPAs had jointly agreed to present the budget, which is being introduced with a deficit of Rs48 billion.
During the Chief Minister’s budget speech in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, opposition members created a lot of noise. In response, Afridi told them to be brave and also directed that water be provided to the protesting members during his speech.
He announced a proposed 7% increase in the salaries and pensions of government employees, along with an increase in the minimum monthly wage by Rs 5,000, raising it to Rs 45,000.
Sohail Afridi said that the budget proposes allocating Rs. 191 billion for law and order, Rs. 19.3 billion for good governance measures, Rs. 15 billion for the Ehsaas Deserving Program, and Rs. 50 billion for the Sehat Card.
It is also proposed to allocate Rs. 1.1 billion for the construction of Zamong Corps Complexes, Rs. 100 million for the welfare of transgender persons, Rs. 14 billion for the provision of medicines in government hospitals, Rs. 80 billion for MTI hospitals, Rs. 4 billion for the construction of a new general hospital in Peshawar, and Rs. 270 million for another project.
A total of Rs. 10 billion is proposed for Elementary and Secondary Education, Rs 36 billion for the Peshawar Rehabilitation Program, Rs. 7.5 billion for the BRT operational subsidy and bus procurement, Rs. 2.2 billion for the expansion of Rescue 1122 across all tehsils, Rs. 200 million for the Ehsaas Nawaz Program in merged districts, and Rs. 52 billion for road infrastructure improvement.
In the merged tribal districts, Rs. 800 million is allocated for tourism promotion, Rs. 4 billion for the Khushal Hazar Program, Rs. 51 million for minority community self-reliance, and Rs. 2 billion for the Ehsaas Kisan Program.
Additionally, Rs. 2 billion is allocated for interest-free loans for individuals wishing to go abroad, Rs. 98.99 million for the environmental sector in the development budget, Rs. 258 million for natural disaster preparedness measures, Rs. 2.5 billion for the electric bikes and rickshaw project, Rs. 362 million for the construction of 14 new government colleges, and Rs. 1.5 billion for a youth internship program.
