The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has uncovered an alleged illegal human organs, including human placenta and meat trafficking ring in sectors F-7 and E-11 in Islamabad.
During a major operation carried out by FIA, five suspects including three Chinese nationals and two Pakistani citizens were arrested.
The suspects were identified as Li Geng Lei, Wang Bao, Pengfei Gao, Waqas Sarwar and Qaiser Hanif.
According to FIA’s initial investigation, the network was allegedly involved in illegal collection and processing of human biological material, mainly human placenta.
After processing, the material was reportedly exported abroad under the label, ‘Sheep Placenta’.
Vietnam was found to be among the final destinations.
FIA further said that the Pakistani citizens arrested in the operation, were allegedly working in supporting and transportation in the smuggling.
Authorities also recovered processing machinery along with prepared material from the area.
Following the FIA raid, a case has been registered under the Human Organ Transplantation Action (HOTA) 2010.
The arrested suspects have been shifted for further investigation.
The complete scale and nature of the illegal human organ trafficking operation in Islamabad is expected to be revealed after forensic examination.
FIA arrests nine involved in illegal organ trafficking
Earlier, the FIA arrested nine individuals involved in illegal kidney transplant and organ trafficking in Islamabad.
As per authorities, nine men were arrested in the operation. Among the arrested were a senior urologist and a private hospital worker.
The officials of the FIA said that these individuals were arrested from a private hospital while conducting a raid.
The arrested doctor and the hospital employee were said to be the main suspects in the whole operation.
The other individuals, including the alleged donors, receivers and the hospital staff, were also taken into custody and were sent to the office of the FIA anti organ trafficking circle in Islamabad for further questioning.
