Earlier, a public feud between actress Momina Iqbal and scholar Nasir Madni hit the headlines after the actress lashed out at the cleric for comments she found defamatory and damaging to her reputation.
Momina Iqbal criticised Nasir Madni for making such claims in the absence of evidence and called him into doubt as a representative of Islamic teachings in a series of social media posts. Her argument was that it was a grave wrong to injure a man’s dignity and honour with baseless allegations and demanded accountability.
The actress was disappointed when she was ridiculed by the public during the scholar’s meetings, as she put it. She asked what the grounds were for talking about her and asked if the comments made about her in public forums were legitimate.
Momina also appealed to the masses and concerned government authorities to take a look at the behaviour of people who comment on other people through religious media. Respect, fairness and truth should continue to be core values in the public discourse, she said.
The controversy had been the subject of intense discussion on social media platforms, with users sharing their opinions on the conflict. The actress’s fans were asking for clarifications and responsible public discussion and others were urging Nasir Madni to take responsibility for the accusations.
