Following allegations that the first DNA report had been used to match the samples of the murdered child to that of her son Arsalan, the mother of the man allegedly killed by the Crime Control Department (CCD) in the Muntaha case has challenged the investigation. The development has not yet been officially confirmed and a final forensic report has not been released by authorities.
In an emotional appeal, Arsalan’s mother demanded proof of his innocence and if that was not the case, she would not remain quiet. As a mother herself, she said she was “very sorry” for the victim’s family, but said she believed that “he was a 25-year-old man who had never been accused of any crime before” and was alleged to be part of a conspiracy.
She also asked how the alleged crime could have been completed in a store without seeing that the theft was happening by the owner or his son or any other employee. If the child had been taken upstairs, the person should have noticed this or seen Arsalan’s absence from work, she said. She said the actual offenders could have got away with it, but her son, who was poor and weak, was scapegoated instead.
The grieving mother added that she wasn’t even allowed to take her son’s body home and had to leave the cemetery to see his face just briefly and wasn’t even allowed to hug her son or kiss him as she was leaving. She called on the government, police and investigators to conduct a fair and transparent investigation, asking them to provide evidence if her son was guilty or ensure justice if he was unjustly murdered.
Police have not yet commented on the alleged DNA claim. The final forensic reports and official investigation have yet to be completed.
