Punjab directs schools to end summer camps by July 1

The Punjab School Education Department has directed all public and private educational institutions to end their summer camps by 1st July, warning that no institution will be allowed to continue holding classes under any circumstances.

According to the department, schools will not be permitted to operate under the guise of academies or tuition centres after the summer camp deadline. Institutions have also been prohibited from conducting classes at alternative locations, in basements, or at undisclosed campuses.

The department said it has received comprehensive reports on institutions using various methods to hold unauthorised classes during the summer vacation.

Officials warned that any institution found violating these directives will face strict legal action, including the sealing of its premises.

It is worth mentioning here that Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat had earlier announced that school summer camps across the province will be permitted to operate from June 1 to June 30.

According to the announcement, the camps will run daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM only, ensuring limited hours of activity during the summer schedule.

In a message shared on X, the minister stated that the initiative aims to help compensate for students’ learning losses caused by extended school holidays during the academic year.

According to the announcement, the summer camps are designed to support academic recovery and ensure continued engagement in learning activities during the vacation period.

Education officials have made it clear that student participation in summer camps will remain completely optional. Schools are required to secure written permission from parents or guardians before enrolling any student in such activities.

Authorities stressed that attendance must be based entirely on parental consent, ensuring that no student is forced to take part against their will.

Private educational institutions have been strictly instructed not to impose any additional charges for summer camp programs. The department warned that no school is allowed to create extra financial pressure on families in the name of these activities.
