Electric bus service expanded to six more Punjab districts

Maryam Nawaz announces electric buses to be introduced in all Punjab tehsils

The Punjab government has taken another step forward to enhance the public transportation system and encourage eco-friendly travel by expanding the province’s electric bus network, which now includes the Green Bus Service in six new districts under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The new phase will include Attock, Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Khanewal and Khushab, which will provide modern public transport facilities in additional communities of Punjab.

The air-conditioned electric buses will have a flat fare of Rs20, making it affordable for commuters in Punjab, the government said.

Maryam Nawaz expressed optimism that the Green Bus Service will be expanded to offer safe, comfortable and modern transportation for the people of the province during the launch.

She said one of the government’s priorities is improving public transportation, especially in terms of providing access to everyone, not just urban areas, but also smaller ones.

The chief minister presented an ambitious expansion plan, saying the province’s goal is to have 1,100 electric buses on the streets by the end of this year.

The fleet will expand to 1500 buses next year, and will eventually reach 5000 electric buses in the next three years.

Implementing the service beyond the big cities, without discrimination, will allow the masses of the tehsils to enjoy the reliable public transport services the government is providing, Maryam Nawaz said.

The initiative benefits women, students, and workers, among others, because affordable transportation can help increase access to essential services, education, and employment, she added.

She said the project will be implemented in phases to cover all the tehsils of Punjab and will be a major contribution towards implementing cleaner and economical public transport in all the tehsils of Punjab in a modern way.
