A local court in Lahore on Friday granted physical remand of prime suspect Raza Dar and five others in the abduction and rape case involving two foreign women.
Two women, identified as Stephanie Adriana Mao and Astrid Robinson, accused Raza Dar, a relative of Deputy PM Ishaq Dar of luring them to Pakistan under false pretences before allegedly staging a kidnapping.
Investigators further claim the suspect included himself in the purported abduction to make the incident appear genuine.
Police had sought 14 days’ remand of the accused. However, the court approved a five a day remand and asked the police to produce the accused before the court on July 8.
New Twist in the case
The police investigation into the alleged rape and kidnapping of foreign women in Lahore has taken a new turn.
According to police sources, the case is mainly linked to a major financial dispute in cryptocurrency between the foreign women and the main accused Raza Dar.
During investigation, it emerged that accused Raza Dar was to receive 1.5 million US dollars from the foreign women, which is around 450 million Pakistani rupees.
For recovery of this amount, Raza Dar allegedly brought the women to Pakistan under a pretext and staged their kidnapping. To make the drama look real, he also portrayed himself as one of the abductees.
It is recalled that the alleged kidnapping took place on June 29, while police were informed on July 2. After this, investigators recovered the women from Holland and Spain.
The FIR of the case has been registered at Defence-C police station in Lahore.
