Strict action ordered against illegal boating in Upper Swat's tourist lakes

Authorities have intensified their crackdown on illegal boating at Saifullah and Mahodand lakes in Upper Swat, warning of strict legal action against violators.

Acting on the directives of Director General Upper Swat Development Authority Shoaib Abbas and Deputy Commissioner Swat Sohail Ahmed Khan, officials have been instructed to register criminal cases against individuals who resume unauthorised boating activities.

The administration said the move is aimed at ensuring public safety, protecting the environment, and enforcing tourism regulations at the two popular tourist destinations. Authorities warned that no unauthorised boating operations will be tolerated, adding that strict action will continue against anyone found violating the ban.

According to sources in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi took notice of a report and expressed serious concern over violations of the provincial government’s ban on illegal boating and other unsafe adventure activities, including sky cycling and zip-lining, at lakes and rivers across the province.

The Chief Minister directed the relevant authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the ban and to prevent the operation of any unsafe adventure activities.

In a statement, the spokesperson for the Upper Swat Development Authority said that, in compliance with government directives, the Assistant Commissioner of Bahrain instructed the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kalam Police Station to immediately register FIRs against illegal boat operators. Police have since initiated legal proceedings against those involved under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code, along with other relevant legal provisions.

Deputy Commissioner Swat Sohail Ahmed Khan said that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found resuming boating activities in violation of government orders. He added that those who aid, facilitate, or support illegal boating operations would also face legal action.
