Brightest Supermoon of 2025 to Dazzle Pakistan Sky Tonight

Pakistan to witness brightest supermoon tonight

ISLAMABAD: Astronomy enthusiasts in Pakistan will have a rare opportunity to witness a spectacle as the biggest, brightest and closest full moon of 2025 will shine in the sky tonight.

According to SUPARCO, on this occasion, the Beaver Supermoon will reach its peak at 6:19 pm (Pakistan Standard Time) on November 5.

The moon will be only 356,980 km from Earth at this time, due to which it will appear about 7.9 per cent larger and 16 per cent brighter than a normal full moon, according to SUPARCO.

This supermoon is the second of three consecutive supermoons (October, November and December 2025).

According to astronomers, usually three to four supermoons are seen in a year, however, the November supermoon is unique in that it will be the closest to Earth.

A supermoon actually occurs when the full moon is at the point in its orbit where it is closest to the Earth, i.e. Perigee.

During this time, the moon’s brightness increases significantly and its presence in the sky becomes very prominent.

Experts say that although this difference seems insignificant to the naked eye, in reality the moon is 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter.

Skywatchers around the world, including Pakistan, will be able to enjoy this beautiful astronomical display tonight.

The November full moon is called the “Beaver Moon,” a name that comes from old folklore. Some believe it marks the period when beavers are busiest building their winter dams, while others link it to early trappers who set their beaver traps before the rivers froze.

HOW TO WATCH THE SUPERMOON?

The supermoon will be visible to everyone without any telescope or special gear. For the best view, head to an open area away from city lights and look toward the east after sunset.

While the change in the moon’s size may seem slight to the naked eye, clear skies will make its glow more striking.
