PDMA weather forecast
Hot and humid weather conditions are expected to persist in most parts of the country with little chance of rain in the next 24 hours.
However, rain, wind and thundershowers are expected at isolated places in Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northeast Punjab.
The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has launched precautionary measures to deal with the expected heatwave and humid weather conditions across the province on the special directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, climate change is likely to increase the intensity of heatwaves and humidity. Heatwave camps have been established in potentially affected districts, while heatwave counters and availability of medicines are being ensured at hospitals.
The authority said extreme heat and humidity are expected in Thal, Cholistan and several districts of South Punjab. Arrangements have been made to provide clean drinking water through filtration plants, water bowsers and other sources in vulnerable areas.
The PDMA spokesperson said smog guns have also been deployed in districts facing severe heat and humid conditions. A heat and humidity spell is expected to continue during July, while 24-hour control rooms are monitoring the situation and providing timely updates.
All district control rooms have been placed on high alert to ensure an immediate response in case of emergencies. Hospitals and district administrations have been directed to ensure the availability of ORS, cold drinking water and medical staff for heatstroke patients.
The spokesperson added that all relevant departments, including the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Rescue 1122, livestock, local government and district administrations, are coordinating closely to respond according to the situation.
Relief camps in urban areas have been equipped with clean water, ORS and first-aid facilities. Mobile health teams will also remain active to deal with heatstroke and dehydration cases.
The PDMA advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities between 10am and 4pm, wear light-coloured loose clothing and increase water intake.
