Middle East tensions: FO calls on all sides to ease situation, honour MoU commitments

Pakistan has expressed concern over the escalating tensions in the Middle East, stating that recent developments are further increasing instability in the region.

Reaffirming its strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of brotherly countries, Pakistan has urged all parties to exercise restraint.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, all sides should take practical steps to immediately reduce tensions and fulfil their commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The spokesperson clarified that Pakistan believes in dialogue and diplomacy as the means to achieve lasting peace in the region. He added that Pakistan remains committed to extending all possible cooperation for regional peace and stability.

On the other hand, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on Sunday to discuss the evolving regional security situation.

During the call, the two leaders exchanged views on recent developments in the region following the US strikes on Iran.

Dar urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and pursue de-escalation in line with the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreed in June 2026. He emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable means of resolving disputes and ensuring lasting peace and stability.

The foreign minister also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to playing a constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability. Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact as tensions continue to unfold across the region.
