NUML awards honorary PhD to Muslim World League secretary general

The National University of Modern Languages (NUML) has awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree to the Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Mohammad AbdulKarim Al-Issa, in recognition of his contributions to global peace, interfaith dialogue and education.

The honorary degree was conferred during NUML’s third Special Convocation in Islamabad, attended by government officials, diplomats, academics and students.

Among those present were Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Nawaf Bin Said Al-Malki, Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Wajiha Qamar, and NUML Rector Maj Gen (R) Shahid Mahmood Kayani.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Al-Issa thanked the university for the honour, describing the award as both a privilege and a responsibility.

He said he was pleased to visit Pakistan and expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended by the university and the Pakistani people.

Dr Al-Issa also praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional and global peace, and commended the country’s leadership for supporting peace, stability and unity.

Speaking at the event, NUML Rector Shahid Mahmood Kayani said the honorary doctorate recognised Dr Al-Issa’s services to humanity, peace and the advancement of knowledge.

He said universities play an important role not only in education but also in encouraging dialogue, preserving cultural values and strengthening understanding between nations.

The rector added that Dr Al-Issa’s visit reflected the close ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and their shared commitment to education, moderation and international cooperation.

Minister of State Wajiha Qamar also congratulated Dr Al-Issa, praising his efforts to promote interfaith harmony, tolerance and unity among Muslim countries.

She said NUML had played an important role in promoting languages and intercultural understanding, helping to strengthen relations between different nations through education.

The ceremony concluded with Dr Al-Issa signing the university’s visitors’ book and posing for photographs with guests and university officials.
