ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced a good news for the current MBBS and BDS students.

As per details, the council issued a clarification that there will be no enforcement of revised attendance and passing mark requirements for MBBS and BDS students enrolled up to the 2024–25 academic session.

The announcement was made in the PMDC meeting after considering the response of universities, medical and dental colleges, and petitions from students and parents.

PMDC reverses 65% passing marks decision for MBBS, BDS

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) earlier reversed its earlier decision to raise passing marks for MBBS and BDS.

As per details, the change is applicable to the 2024–2025 academic session. The earlier rule that increased the passing percentage from 50% to 65% has now been withdrawn.

The PMDC has also withdrawn the decision regarding the class attendance. As per the previous rule 85% attendance was necessary which has been cancelled now and the 75% attendance rule will again be followed for MBBS and BDS students.

All medical and dental universities across the country have been asked to follow the new notification immediately.

MDCAT relief

Earlier, in a big relief for applicants, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) decided to address the complaints related to the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT).

According to a private news outlet quoting sources, PMDC will address the complaints by introducing major reforms.

The council will develop a new framework for the MDCAT system within the next one to two weeks. The reforms will be directed towards resolving the complaints and problems reported during MDCAT 2025.

After the completion of the framework, the committee will meet this month to review and discuss recommendations and use of modern technology in the examination process will also be discussed.

Officials say the new MDCAT exam model will be designed to meet international standards, ensuring a fair and transparent admission process for future medical and dental students.

PMDC fee hike

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) approved a 5 per cent increase in tuition fees for private medical and dental colleges across the country.

From next year, college owners will also be officially allowed to increase fees according to the Consumer Price Index and inflation rate.

PMDC approved a 5 per cent increase in fees for the session 2025-26. After the increase the fees of private medical and dental colleges for the session 2025-26 have been fixed at 18 lakh 90 thousand.

Private medical colleges have also been given free rein to increase their own fees from 2026-27.

Private medical and dental colleges will be able to increase fees according to the Consumer Price Index and inflation rate, which will result in medical education becoming more expensive.
