Web desk: Pakistan’s National Assembly has passed the 27th Constitutional Amendment with a two-thirds majority, following its earlier approval by the Senate.
The 27th Constitutional Amendment was passed in the National Assembly, with 234 members voting in favour of the constitutional amendment, while 4 voted against it.
Earlier, all 59 clauses of the 27th Constitutional Amendment were passed by a two-thirds majority, after which final approval was given.
The voting process was conducted from the division, and members voting in favour and against the amendment were instructed to go to the lobby separately.
During the session of the National Assembly, chaired by Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar moved the motion for the 27th Constitutional Amendment. After this, the clause-wise voting process on the constitutional amendments began.
In the National Assembly, the government presented 8 new amendments to the 27th Constitutional Amendment, amendments to remove four clauses and insert four clauses were presented.
The word Federal Constitutional Court was added to Article 6, Clause 2 of the Constitution, and the word Supreme Court was added to Article 10 of the Constitution.
Article 176 was amended to provide that the current Chief Justice will be called the Chief Justice of Pakistan until the completion of the term.
Article 255, Clause 2, was amended to provide that after the current term, the Chief Justice of Pakistan will be the senior-most Chief Justice of Pakistan among the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court.
PM Shehbaz Addresses National Assembly
Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is speaking at the National Assembly as the 27th Constitution was passed.
He thanked the Armed Forces and lauded them for the professionalism they showed in the Wana Cadet College attack. The PM also talked about the Islamabad Judicial Complex Blast. And, he prayed for the highest level of Jannah for them.
He said that, unfortunately, people from Afghanistan were also among the terrorists. He stated it is very clear that Fitna-al-Khawarij is behind the terror attacks. PM said we are well aware of their tactics, and like before, we will be given an appropriate response.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the sacrifices of the security forces and appealed to the nation for unity and solidarity.
“We believe what is good for Pakistan is good for them,” he said while stating that Pakistan wants to resolve things with peace.
“The whole world is watching the reward for forty years of hospitality,” says the Prime Minister, criticising Afghanistan’s role in terror attacks in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, in his address to the National Assembly session, further said that we have given a befitting reply to the terrorists before and will give it again.
He said that our opponents are not involved in terrorism in the country, which is like saying day and night.
The whole world is seeing the reward for forty years of hospitality. “We want peace, and we want Afghanistan to participate in the peace process. It is not possible that they do not rein in the terrorists and make false promises,” he said.
