Senate Approves Amendments in the 27th Amendment

ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Thursday approved the 27th amendment with two third majority after voting on additional clauses.

The senate session was chaired by Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani.

According to details, clauses 2 and 3 of the bill were approved with a two-thirds majority. A total of 64 votes were cast in favour, while 4 votes were against.

The National Assembly had earlier deleted clause 19 from the bill, which the Senate also approved. The move to delete the clause received 64 votes in favour and 4 against, effectively removing clause 19 from the bill with a two-thirds majority.

Similarly, during the Senate session, clause 55 was also deleted from the bill on the National Assembly’s recommendation, again with a 64–4 vote margin.

Meanwhile, the amendment to clause 53, which was earlier made by the National Assembly, was also approved by the Senate with a two-thirds majority.

The 27th Constitutional Amendment was passed in the National Assembly yesterday, with 234 members voting in favour of the constitutional amendment, while 4 voted against it.

The approved constitutional amendment bill will now be sent to the President for his signature.
