National Assembly Approves Army Act Amendment Bill 2025

Web desk: The National Assembly on Thursday approved key amendments to Pakistan’s armed forces legislation. With the Pakistan Air Force Amendment Bill 2025, Pakistan Army Act Amendment Bill 2025, and Pakistan Navy Act Amendment Bill 2025 all passed successfully.

The National Assembly approved the Army Act 2025 following the passage of the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

Under the proposed Army Act, a new notification will be issued appointing the Army Chief as the Chief of Defence Forces.

The draft law states that after the issuance of the new notification, the Army Chief’s tenure will restart. As Chief of Defence Forces, the Army Chief will oversee the restructuring and integration of all branches of the Pakistan Army.

According to the proposed Army Act, the Prime Minister, on the recommendation of the Army Chief (Chief of Defence Forces), will appoint the Commander of the National Strategic Command.

The draft further states that the Commander of the National Strategic Command will have a three-year term, which can be extended for another three years.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said that the Army Chief will now also hold the position of Chief of Defence Forces, with a five-year term.

The Prime Minister will appoint the Chief of Defence Forces, and the tenure will begin from the day of appointment.

He added that the law clearly defines the five-year tenure of the Chief of Defence Forces from the date of appointment.

Speaking on the occasion, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar praised the bravery of Islamabad Police personnel, saying their quick action prevented further loss of life during the recent courthouse attack.

He expressed his condolences to the families of those killed and said he personally visited the injured in the hospital on the instructions of the Prime Minister.

Tarar emphasised that terrorists have no religion and highlighted other key achievements, including the signing of the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill by the President, which has now become part of the Constitution.

He added that the government has fulfilled its promise by establishing a constitutional court, reinforcing Pakistan’s legal and institutional framework.

Cabinet Approves Amendment in Army Act

The federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on Thursday approved key amendments to the three service acts in light of changes to Article 243, according to the reports.

The cabinet session was chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In view of the amendment to Article 243, all amendments in the three service acts have been approved, as per the reports.

The ranks of Field Marshal, Marshal of the Air, and Admiral of the Fleet will be given legal coverage. Legislation has been approved for the Chief of Defence Services post.

Legislation will also be done for the post of Commander of the National Strategic Command.

The Amendment was to be presented in the National Assembly shortly.
