Federal Constitutional Court likely to start functioning tonight

ISLAMABAD: President of Pakistan is likely to administer the oath to all judges of the newly established Federal Constitutional Court later tonight at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Sources told Pakistan Connect that the head of the Constitutional Court may take the oath tonight at the Presidency.

Preparations are underway at the Aiwan-e-Sadr for the swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court.

 President Asif Ali Zardari will administer the oath, while Justice Aminuddin will take oath as the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court.

According to government sources, the oath may be taken tonight. The Prime Minister, Speaker, Senate Chairman, federal ministers, and other key officials have been informed.

Following the passage of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, the senior-most judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah, have resigned.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has sent his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari, stating that he served the institution with honour, honesty, and integrity.

In his letter, Justice Mansoor added that his conscience is clear and he has no regrets, resigning as the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court.
