The federal government has imposed a travel ban on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and other party leaders.

The list includes Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Omar Ayub, Fawad Chaudhry, and Shibli Faraz. The names of Ali Amin Gandapur, Shehryar Afridi, and Usman Dar have also been included.

The government approved adding these names to the Exit Control List (ECL) in light of the May 9 riots.

The ECL is a government travel restriction that prevents individuals from leaving the country, often due to serious criminal charges.

As of now, the ECL Committee has forwarded the recommendations for final approval.

It is pertinent to mention that Imran Khan has been in jail since 2023.

Recently, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced a blanket ban on meetings with Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.

“Prisoner meetings are held in accordance with the law and established rules. There will be no meetings; all meetings are banned,” said Tarar.

The minister vowed swift and firm action against anyone attempting to disrupt law and order outside the prison.

“Permission will not be given to advance the enemy’s agenda from inside the jail,” he added.

The minister also announced plans for registering cases against those creating narratives against the country.

“They now have no future; their political space and narrative will be restricted,” he added.
