CHARSADDA: Renowned Islamic scholar and JUI leader Hafiz Abdul Salam Arif has been shot dead in a target killing incident in Charsadda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

As per details, the horrific incident occurred in Tehsil Mandani of Charsadda, where the scholar was brutally killed by militants.

Earlier in March this year a local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) was martyred in a targeted attack in the Malikabad area of Turbat district.

The deceased was identified as Mufti Shahmeer, a member of JUI-F. Unidentified armed motorcyclists opened fire at him as he was leaving the mosque after offering Tarawih prayers.

Mufti Shahmeer sustained serious gunshot wounds and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Officials stated that the motive behind the killing remains unclear, and the attackers managed to flee the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attack appeared to be highly organized, with the assailants lying in ambush.

Later in August, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) Malakand district emir Mufti Kifayatullah was injured while two, including his daughter, were killed in a shooting at his home in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Malakand Division, according to officials.

Malakand Deputy Commissioner and Commandant Malakand Levies Hamid Ur Rehman confirmed that Mufti Kifayatullah had been injured in the attack.

“Today, around 1pm, JUI Malakand district emir Mufti Kifayatullah, along with his two daughters, was shot within the limits of Chowki Batkhela, Levies Post Batkhela area,” a statement by the KP Police said on the day of the incident.
