Afghanistan’s official revenue website, Arian.gov.af, went offline after a large-scale Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) cyber attack by Pakistan today.

The website became inaccessible after what security sources described as a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.

The action was a response to the tensions that remain high along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where both sides have reported clashes in recent days.

Officials have not provided full technical details about who was behind the cyber disruption.

Website outage after reported cyber assault

The revenue portal was reportedly overwhelmed by a large volume of traffic, which forced the system to shut down.

Some sources said the attack appeared to be coordinated. They claimed that individuals described as cyber vigilantes from Pakistan were involved, saying the action was carried out as a response to rising tensions. These claims have not been independently verified.

Afghan authorities have not yet issued a detailed public statement about the cyber incident.

Tensions have also been reported along the Torkham Border Crossing, a key trade and travel route between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Pakistani security sources said fighting broke out after what they described as cross-border firing from Afghan fighters. Afghan officials have not publicly confirmed the details of those allegations.

Pakistan reports counteroffensive operations

Security sources in Pakistan said their forces launched retaliatory operations, which they described as part of an ongoing security response.

Officials said several Afghan fighters were killed during the fighting. They also claimed that border posts were damaged or captured during the clashes. These figures could not be independently confirmed.

Pakistani sources further said air and ground strikes targeted weapons storage sites and military positions in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Province.

They said multiple military vehicles, including tanks and armoured personnel carriers, were destroyed. Afghan authorities have not commented in detail on these claims.

The reported cyber attack marks what analysts say is an expansion of the confrontation beyond physical fighting into digital space.

Both countries have a long history of border disputes and security accusations. However, neither side has officially confirmed direct state involvement in the cyber incident.

Diplomatic channels appear under pressure as the situation continues to develop. Officials on both sides have said they are monitoring the security situation closely.
