After the motorway from Lahore to Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the public transport on the Grand Trunk Road has also been suspended.

As per media reports, travel has become difficult for people heading from Lahore to Islamabad and Rawalpindi after the closure of the motorway and GT Road, which has also led to the suspension of bus services. Stranded passengers have now turned to trains as an alternative.

Commuters say they are facing serious difficulties due to road closures, as both the motorway and GT Road remain shut. Many citizens are now preferring train travel due to the lack of other transport options.

One passenger said he had traveled from Islamabad to Lahore but is now facing severe problems returning as bus services have been suspended.

According to authorities, the roads have been closed due to security reasons, and citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel.

Several transport terminals reopened in Rawalpindi

The district administration of Rawalpindi has restored transport terminals on Peshawar Road.

According to Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema, the transport stands at 26 Number and Peshawar Mor Chowk have been reopened.

Lahore-Islamabad motorway update amid Islamabad talks 2.0

Ahead of possible second round of US-Iran talks the authorities have increased security and finalised arrangements.

For public transport several motorways linking Lahore, Peshawar and Faisalabad to the capital have been temporarily closed, as per of the measures.  According to the officials between Islamabad and Lahore M2 motorway is restricted to private vehicles only, with similar rules on the M1 and M3 routs.

The restrictions, imposed under federal directives and supported by transport authorities, have effectively turned Islamabad into a high-security zone. Key routes, including the Expressway from Koral to Zero Point, have been completely sealed, while Srinagar Highway is facing intermittent closures based on security needs. Sensitive areas such as the Red Zone have also been fully cordoned off, leading to major disruptions across the city.

Traffic diversions are in place in multiple sectors, including G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6, and F-7 towards Rawalpindi. Vehicles traveling between Faisal Avenue and Zero Point are being redirected to 9th Avenue, while traffic from Koral Chowk, Club Road, and Bhara Kahu is being diverted through alternate routes such as Taramri Chowk, Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road.
