Rapid advances in the world of artificial intelligence are pointing towards a future where the need to open separate apps on mobile phones for different tasks may decrease.
The AI agent ‘Dobby’, developed by renowned AI researcher Andrej Karpathy, is an example of this concept. This system is designed to perform various digital and household tasks through simple commands.
How does Dobby work?
According to Andrej Karpathy, Dobby can control various connected systems present in his home, including music, lights and security systems. For this, the user does not need to open a separate app for every task. Instead, the user tells the AI agent the desired task, and Dobby accesses the relevant device and performs it.
The system can scan the local network to identify devices connected to it and then establish communication with them through available methods and follow the given instructions.
One AI, the work of several apps
Normally, separate apps have to be used for home lights, music systems and security devices. The concept of Dobby attempts to change this method. That is, instead of going into different apps, the user can talk to a single AI agent and get multiple tasks done. According to Andrej Karpathy, in the future, instead of searching for different options in the interfaces of traditional apps, people may give instructions to AI agents through conversation.
Still in the early stages
Dobby is currently in its early stages and requires technical knowledge to set up and use. However, this concept points towards a trend in AI in which autonomous AI agents will be able to understand users’ instructions and independently perform different digital tasks.
If this technology becomes widespread on a large scale, then in the future, instead of performing tasks one by one through mobile apps, users will simply state their need and the AI agent will complete the relevant task itself.
